One of my current fav shows is the Running Man.
Not this Running Man starring Arnold Scharkernifgowger. THIS.
If you enjoy watching variety shows like Super Trio or Saturday Night Live, I highly recommend my readers (all 12 of you) to pick up this South Korean variety show. I can honestly tell you I have never laughed so hard in my life when I’m watching the show. It’s the funniest show EVER.
And you know I’m not kidding when I used all three major font styles.
Hosted by the popular Korean comedian Yu Jae-suk (the green shirt in the middle) alongside his fellow members Ji Suk-jin, Kim Jong-kook, Kang Gary, Ha-ha, Lee Kwang-su and Song Ji-hyo, Running Man is a variety show where the members have to complete various missions to win the race.
To make the show entertaining and refreshing all the time, each episode features different missions at different landmarks in South Korea.
Here they are sharpening pencils while giving a piggyback ride. Yes, the mission is normally as simple as that but it’s made complicated by the staffs with the rules and restrictions, which make it funny to those who are watching.
Besides that, Running Man also occasionally features some of the biggest stars in South Korean entertainment as their guest of the day who will complete the missions alongside the members.
Most recently, they even got *hubba* *hubba* Girls’ Generation to come as guests in one of their latest episodes. *owwwoooooo*
I wish they will bring Park Ji-sung in as a guest someday…
For me, what makes Running Man so unique is not the entertaining missions or impressive guests; it’s the chemistry and on-show relationship dynamics between the members.
You can see Jae-suk and Jong-kook competing against each other; Kwang-su sabotaging Ji-hyo and Jong-kook; Jae-suk bullying Ha-ha; Jong-kook teaming up with Gary and Ha-ha to terrorize the other members and many more, all in the name of fun and everyone’s complementing each other.
My favourite relationship dynamic is the Monday Couple, Gary and Ji-hyo. <3
Given that nickname due to them showing interest in each other only on Monday (Running Man is recorded on Monday), what started as a joke became the show’s flagship.
Gary’s continuous attempts to flirt with Ji-hyo (in which she will reject him normally) in the midst of performing missions easily crack me up without failing. Here’s one of the many video tributes made by their loyal fans.
And there’s even a FB page worshiping the duo! Just to show how popular they really are. :3
Besides all the fun and laughter, Running Man also showcases South Korea in such a great light instead of showing the people crying their eyes out 24/7.
Watching Running Man really makes me want to visit and experience the culture and thanks to them, I already know where to go and what to do in South Korea if I go there someday. I have bookmarked places I want to go such as the Lotte World, Seoul Tower, Alpensia Ski Resort and Alpensia Ocean 700 Water Park.
.
Anyway, what I really want to talk about today is not Running Man after going in one big circle. It’s this guy.
Nichkhun, a Thai singer who is a member of the popular South Korean boy band 2PM.
At the time of posting, Nichkhun has appeared as a guest in Running Man for 5 episodes.
And because of his frequent appearances, I started to notice him (in a very straight way), listen to his songs (in a very straight way too) and even google him up (perhaps in a not-so-straight way).
Which was when I discovered something shocking to me.
We’re born on the same date: 24th June 1988!!!
This discovery was really shocking to me. I mean, we share the same birthday. So that means… we are indirectly twins? :O
Normally sharing the same birthday with some prominent fellas should be a great honor, but this in particular put me at unease. I mean… here, let me demonstrates using pictures.
This is Nichkhun in an orange background.
And this is me in an orange background.
This is Nichkhun in the water.
And this is me in the water.
And I don’t think I need to mention our difference in the singing department too you guys would already know what I’m trying to say. Despite we share the same birthday…
I’m super jealous of him!
