As usual, when you’re taking a long-distance flight, the airline usually provides in-flight meal. When I was flying to Hainan, it’s no different. Though the choice of food they had was stupid.
I mean, they were serving Hainanese chicken rice. On my flight to Hainan.
When the flight attendant who was serving me asked if I wanted it, I was like…
Bitch please, I’m on my way to Hainan now to eat the authentic Hainanese chicken rice. Which I may or may not have said it.
As soon as we landed, we immediately leave the airport and rushed to the nearest chicken rice shop. So without further ado, here’s the authentic one!
Better known as Wenchang chicken! Looks scrumptious, right?
And it won’t be complete without a bowl of delicious, hot rice.
Like how all Sarawakians always say we Peninsular people will never eat a true bowl of kolo mee until we eat it in Sarawak, I can use the exact sentiment for the chicken rice. Until you eat it in Hainan, you will never truly eat Hainanese chicken rice!
Besides trying the chicken rice, I also tried other local delicacies and leveled up my taste buds.
Pork, chicken and goose, meet readers. Readers, meet pork, chicken and goose.
I have to say, the food in Hainan was simply the best. Maybe it’s the quality of ingredients used or it’s the cooking style, the moment I put the food in my mouth, I can instantly taste the difference and realize how inferior our local food is.
Nasi lemak with sambal? Bitch please, have you ever tried eating roast pork with sugar?
It’s heaven! The best way to describe this delicious combination where the sugar melts together with the juicy pork fat in your mouth is it’s a pure orgasm – it’s a food porn!
Some of the other food I’ve tried were:
Chinese sausage with roasted nuts.
Stir-fry beef with tropical fruits.
Sweet and sour deep-fried fish with pineapple.
Yes, I ate a lot during the Hainan trip. Everyday it’s like a king’s feast and I ate like the zombie apocalypse was going to arrive on the next day.
Can’t really help it when the food was that good… and the fact it tasted like my late grandma’s cooking.
But!
Although I had countless of satisfying meals in Hainan, when I came home to Malaysia, I realized I pigged out waaaaay too much.
Oh shit.
